Collaboration

The platform was developed at the University of Bamberg in consultation with researchers from the UrbanMetaMapping and UrbanMetaMapping Transfer projects.

The following student assistants, among others, also contributed to the development, indexing and data processing:

Project funding

MapMyMaps is a digital research and working platform developed for the project as part of the UrbanMetaMapping initiative. It is used for the collection, documentation, analysis and visualisation of historical damage maps and spatial sources relating to the Second World War. The project was funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG 419291237), the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF 01UL2004A) and the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR 01UL2404). The platform was established during the project period 2020–2025 and subsequently further developed in scientific, technical and editorial terms.

Due to the sometimes complex copyright situation regarding historical map collections, not all materials can be made publicly available. Access to certain content is restricted to registered cooperation partners.

Copyright and image rights

The historical maps, illustrations, geodata and other materials shown are subject to the copyright of the respective rights holders. The image and usage rights have been carefully checked as part of the project work. The copyright and exploitation rights remain expressly with the respective archives, institutions or other rights holders. Reproduction, distribution or publication is permitted only in accordance with the applicable legal provisions and with the consent of the rights holders. Should the rights of third parties be affected despite careful examination, please notify us accordingly.

Session Data

The platform only collects information necessary to use it. It may set a so called session cookie in your browser that holds e.g. your search parameters to provide a smooth search or your decision regarding OpenStreetMap tiles (see below).

This data is not sent to a third party, there is no analytics etc. running.

OpenStreetMap

To display the historic maps on top of a background map your browser will fetch map tiles from the OSM server. This means you will connect directly to the OSM server(s). See the OSM privacy policy for details.

Logged in User

The platform only stores information you actively provide. This includes your user data as well as anything you actively edit (maps, map descriptions and other metadata etc). So please do not provide anything you do not want to be saved.

We will not share your user data with third parties.
